Do you want to have a paternity test performed during pregnancy? Which can. Thanks to a new non-invasive test method, this is now even possible without an increased risk of miscarriage. You no longer need a biopsy or amniocentesis. Instead, it is sufficient to have blood drawn from the mother and cheek mucus from the father. In short, the possibilities of a paternity test during pregnancy have improved considerably. And that’s great, because now you can check the mutual biological relationships at a (very) early stage and without risk to the baby.

Perform Non-Invasive DNA Test

Do you want to have a paternity test performed during pregnancy? Then you can use the prenatal paternity test, a so-called non-invasive DNA test. Non-invasive means there is no need to take DNA from the unborn baby, the lab instead isolates the baby’s DNA profile from the mother’s blood. This means that a paternity test during pregnancy no longer increases the risk of miscarriage, as it is no longer necessary to collect villi or amniotic fluid.

Differences invasive and non-invasive DNA test

We are happy to list the differences between the traditional invasive DNA test and our non-invasive paternity test for you. The traditional method calls for a biopsy or puncture on the mother, by a gynaecologist in the hospital. The new non-invasive paternity test only asks for a blood sample from the mother, to be performed by a general practitioner, puncture center or obstetrician. In both cases, only cheek mucus is collected from the father.

However, a biopsy can only be taken after 11 – 15 weeks, the time is only ripe for a puncture after 16 – 22 weeks. Our prenatal paternity test makes it possible to take blood from the 9th week of pregnancy. In all cases, the paternity test leads to a reliability of at least 99.9%, but the new method prevents the increased risk of complications or miscarriage.

It is also possible to have our non-invasive test performed anonymously. The only drawback is that the costs are higher than that of the traditional test which carries more risks. In both cases, you have the option of having a possible second father tested during the pregnancy.
