Paternity test
With a paternity test you can find out if you are the father of a child. This is tested in the laboratory by means of buccal mucosa. An accessible and inexpensive test.
- At least 99.999% accurate
- Within 4 days after receiving the result back
- ISO 17025 recognized
Run Paternity Test
With our paternity test we can determine very accurately whether you are the father of a child. With our test kit you can easily and painlessly take the DNA samples yourself with cotton swabs. The laboratory then compares your DNA with the child’s DNA in at least 20 places. Do the DNA profiles not match? Then we can determine with 100% certainty that you are not the father of the child. Do the DNA profiles match? Then we can determine with at least 99.999% certainty that you are the father.
Peace of mind or legal
At Vaderschaptest.nu you can choose between a test for your peace of mind or a legally valid test. During a test for your peace of mind, you can take the DNA samples yourself. Because the results of a legally valid test must be usable in a lawsuit (for example about custody or alimony), a doctor or nurse must take the DNA samples for this test. You will find all the information and requirements for this in the test kit of the legally valid test. The further testing procedure in the laboratory is exactly the same for both tests. Both tests are therefore equally reliable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the results of a paternity test be used for lawsuits?
Yes, that’s possible. You must then choose the ‘legally valid’ option when you order the test. You will then be sent a different test kit to your home than with the peace of mind test. In a legally valid test, the collection of the DNA samples is subject to more conditions. You will find all the information and requirements for this in the test kit of the legally valid test. The result of a legally valid paternity test is just as reliable as the result of a peace of mind test. You can have all tests legally performed with us, except for the prenatal paternity test.
Can I take a paternity test during pregnancy?
Yes, that’s possible. You can have a prenatal paternity test from the 9th week of pregnancy. For this purpose, blood is taken from the mother (by a doctor, nurse or puncture center). The blood also contains the unborn baby’s DNA, which is isolated and then compared with the DNA of the presumed father.
Why a paternity test?
There are many different reasons why you can have a paternity test:
- Because you doubt whether you are the biological father of your child.
- Because you doubt whether your alleged father is your biological father.
- Because you doubt whether your partner is the biological father of your child.
- Because you want or need to prove that you are the biological father of your child (for example in connection with guardianship or family reunification).
- Because you want or have to prove that you are not the biological father of the child (for example in connection with alimony).
- Because you want to prove that someone is your father (for example in the case of guardianship, alimony or an inheritance).
- Because you want to prove that a certain person is the father of the child (for example in connection with alimony).
Can I also use the results of a peace of mind test in a lawsuit?
Although the result of a peace of mind test is just as reliable as the result of a legally valid paternity test, we are not aware of any cases where the result of a peace of mind test has been accepted in legal proceedings. That’s because of the way the DNA is taken. If the parties take the DNA themselves, without the presence of an independent third party, the court or government agency cannot simply assume that the samples submitted actually come from the right people. And that the monsters have not been tampered with. So if you want to be sure that you can use the results in a lawsuit, choose the “legally valid” option when ordering.
How is a paternity test performed?
In the laboratory, the researcher compares the DNA material of the presumed father with the DNA material of the child. They do this in at least 20 places. On the basis of this comparison, paternity can be excluded (always 100% certainty) or proven (always at least 99.999% certainty). The more places the DNA is compared in, the more accurate the result. With a comparison in 25 places, for example, the result is 99.9999% certain if the relationship is proven. If you are going to order the test you can choose between 20 and 25 loci (loci means ‘place’). At 25 loci you pay an additional cost.
Does the mother also have to provide DNA material in a paternity test?
No that is not necessary. In some cases, the result of the paternity test is even more reliable.
How reliable are the results of your paternity test?
We only work with the most reputable, modern and certified laboratories. So you don’t have to doubt that. If the result of the paternity test is negative, ie if you are not the father of the child, this is always 100% accurate. Is the result positive? The laboratory then indicates how accurately they were able to determine this. This is always a minimum of 99.999%. In this case, 100% accuracy is not achievable in any test or laboratory.
Can I also take a paternity test without the father?
Yes, even if the father is not available or does not want to participate in a direct paternity test, you can get answers to your questions. You can then do an indirect paternity test. For example, you can do a test with a brother or sister, or with a grandfather and grandchild. Use our selection aid to select the right DNA test.
I need the results urgently, is that possible?
Yes, we can speed up the process for a small additional fee. Please do not hesitate to contact us and we will inform you about the possibilities.
How should I interpret the results of a paternity test?
In a paternity test, the DNA of each test participant is compared in at least 20 places. You will receive the result in a detailed report. The language in that report is scientific and legal, and therefore sometimes difficult to understand. The most important thing for you are the Test Conclusions. In this conclusion, the researcher indicates the result of your paternity test. Two results are possible:
- … is excluded as the biological father. This conclusion means that the test shows that you are not the biological father of the child: the DNA does not match in any place. That is why it says 0% under ‘Chance of paternity’. Paternity is therefore 100% excluded.
… is not excluded as the biological father. This conclusion means that you are most likely the biological father of the child. The DNA then matches. For these similarities, it is then calculated how likely it is that another person with a similar ethnic background has the DNA. The results of the individual calculations are then combined and based on this, the probability of paternity is calculated. - A probability percentage of at least 99.999% is stated under ‘Probability of paternity’. This percentage will never be 100%, which is scientifically impossible. If you want to learn more about the likelihood of paternity, you can also look at the Combined Paternity Index in the report. This index indicates how often you are more likely to be the biological father than a randomly selected unrelated male of a similar ethnic background. This number varies from case to case. The higher this number, the stronger the results (which can run into the tens of millions).
In the paternity test report for peace of mind, we will copy the names on the report as written on the paperwork that is submitted because we are unable to verify that a sample submitted to us is from the participant specified by you. However, do you opt for a legally valid test? Then the names are copied from the identity document. The test process itself is exactly the same for both tests. Rest assured that the results for the samples provided to us are extremely accurate.
